Sowing and Planting

Genetically modified plants

There is currently a total ban on the cultivation of genetically modified plants in Poland.

As of 28 January 2013, legal acts regulating the issue of banning the cultivation of genetically modified plant varieties are in force: The Seed Act of 9 November 2012 (Journal of Laws of 2012, item 1512, as amended). It is also forbidden to cultivate genetically modified potato variety – Amflora and genetically modified maize varieties – MON 810, the cultivation of which in the first case is currently forbidden in the European Union countries, and in the second case is allowed in some EU countries. In order to avoid any misunderstandings during inspections, the Chief Inspector of Plant Protection and Seed Inspection recommends that all maize growers keep the documents of purchase of maize seed and the official labels (plant passport) with which all packages of this material are labelled. The absence of such a label on the packaging indicates the illegal origin of the seed.
